Hand-made with pure love.
The seniors at Mustang Creek Estates in Burleson, Texas have been keeping busy the past couple weeks. They have been making cozy fleece blankets for the blind, three-legged, deaf, and generally handicapped animals that live on the Second Chance Farms animal sanctuary in Granbury.
"We are making little blankets for shelter dogs, puppies, any little animal that needs some security and some warmth," said senior resident Kathy Enlow.
Each homemade blanket will go to an animal in need living at the Texas sanctuary.
Second Chance Farms owner Sandi Walker describes her 70-acre animal sanctuary as a place where blind horses, deaf dogs, injured sheep, rescued pigs, and forgotten chickens can have a place to run free and live peacefully.
"We will typically turn down the cute fluffy healthy puppies. We take the ones that are deaf and blind or the ones that need amputation. We take the ones that most rescues won't."
The donated blankets will go to needy animals that likely have never seen human compassion in their lives. The handmade things, made from the heart, are the most valuable to the nonprofit sanctuary and their hundreds of adoptable animals.
"We are 100% donation based so especially the handmade things, we love these," said Walker. "They're more heartfelt for us and for the animals too."
