Snakes have great camouflage. I've accidentally reached for what I thought was a stick only to watch it move away. I can say that I have never confused one for a dog toy. Watch the video below to see what happens.
That could have been a horrible case of mistaken identity. I can't believe she wasn't bit. Although I'm sure her high-stepping moves helped her get to safety.
While I'm sure in this case, the low light conditions didn't help, being able to identify snakes is always handy. With the exception of Alaska, every state has at least one venomous species.
