So...it's impossible to pull the bait out of the fish's mouth during a hookset. I've said it. You've said it. Everyone has said it, and we are all wrong. According to science, what's really happening is the fish just doesn't have it fully in their mouth to begin with.
The longer you hold and pause before setting the hook, the more time you allow for the fish to get the bait fully it its mouth. Most of us know this, but actually putting it into practice is a whole different story.
The next time you're fishing a topwater bait, try to give it a full three seconds. Yes, the odds are the bass will spit it out. However, the odds just might be better you'll completely miss the fish otherwise.
