The SIK SK2 Mechanical Broadhead Should Top All Your Arrows

The SIK SK2 broadhead is opening wound channels wider than the competition with their new design.

Broadheads are the most debated topic in bowhunting besides bows themselves. Since it's the first point that touches the animal, a broadhead is a crucial factor in an ethical kill.

The SIK SK2 brings innovation to the age-old use of arrowheads with several new features. This broadhead flies like a field point and weighs in at 100 grains. The operation is guaranteed to open on contact due to their new FLITELOC Technology.

The most exciting advancement is their signature offset design.

We heard from SIK's broadhead engineer, Timmy Langley, who enlightened us on some of the work that went into the SK2.

"We performed extensive strength, durability, destructive, performance, and accuracy testing while developing these broadheads," he said. "These heads will survive a shot through ½" plywood, which is roughly twice as strong as an elk rib and a step above our standard 3/8" testing."

So that means they're sturdy, but what about the broadhead's opening speed? The SK2 is said to the only head on the market that opens so quickly.

"The head fully deploys before it passes through the hide of an animal, which creates massive holes," Langley said. "The blade angles have been optimized to allow for devastating penetration. The SIK SK2 has been tested more extensively than any other product I have worked on because it has been in development for four years. We are extremely confident that it will be your broadhead of choice once you experience its performance."

Field Point Accuracy

Since it only weighs 100 grains, the SIK SK2 matches the flight of your typical field tip. This feature is necessary in today's arrowhead advancements. Bowhunters have moved past the old days of tuning arrows by replacing their blades. This broadhead is an immediate plug in for your set up thanks to this feature.

"It flies like a field point, delivers maximum damage, creates an offset wound channel that bleeds profusely, and is strong enough to bring down the toughest game animals," Langley said.

FLITELOC Technology

Recent mechanical broadhead designs have had issues with opening before impact. This problem comes from a host of effects, such as tight shooting positions, power advancements in bows, and fluke malfunctions upon impact. Hitting an animal with a malfunctioning broadhead can cause serious problems.

Taking this into account, SIK instituted the FLITELOC technology, which holds blades in place until opening from the harsh impact of puncturing the target. The FLITELOC clasp is guaranteed to open on contact, and comes with replacements to get the most out of the head.

The Flightlok Clip is what sets the SK2 apart from other broadheads on the market," said David Hahn, a SIK engineer who worked on the SK2. "It snaps in place to hold the blades in the closed position during flight, and it also provides the impact load to open the broadhead faster than any other mechanical head on the market."

Someone unfamiliar with this sort of thing might ask about the affect such a clip might have on an arrow as it flies towards a target. SIK put plenty of effort into that aspect, so you needn't worry.

"The clip is specially designed to fly true, provide an impact surface to open the blades, and clear itself from the wound channel all within the split second of connection with the target," Hahn said. "The Flightlok Clip is a dual purpose blade retention system that can only be found on the SIK SK2."

Offset Design

The offset deign is the most unique feature that sets this product apart. When the blades are offset, it allows the arrow to cleanly move through the target, following the broadhead. If you apply this to a shot on an animal, the entrance and exit wound will allow double the blood loss. This all results in the best opportunity for an ethical kill.

"The offset blade design is something we have wanted to do for several years," Hahn told us. "The blades being offset allows for a larger wound channel which means faster kills and better blood trails." Isn't that what we're all after?

"The structure of the SK2 was very complementary to the offset design," continued Hahn. "The solid ferrule provides a very strong broadhead and allowed us to incorporate this offset blade technology into a package that exceeds expectations. The unique wound channel shape creates more cutting surface than traditional two blade broadheads that have the blades in the same plane. The SIK SK2 offset design is just another reason this broadhead stands alone in its level of performance."

Overall Opinion

For those who have shot and tested many broadheads during their bowhunting careers, the SIK SK2 will probably be viewed as the most unique design yet. These blades are here to introduce new concepts to the industry, while pushing other companies to think more about supplying hunters with efficient tools.
