Thor Trucks, a small, 2-year-old company in Los Angeles, wants to give Tesla some competition for its electric semi-trucks.
Thor Trucks is ready to drop the hammer.
Like Tesla, the startup offers an electric-powered truck with swoopy, aerodynamic styling. Like Tesla's truck, Thor's truck costs somewhere around $150,000 and hauls 80,000 pounds of cargo with ease.
Unlike Tesla's futuristic truck, Thor's is available right now.
Instead of cranking out trucks in the thousands, Thor's founder, Dakota Semler, has chosen to go a bit slower by converting existing fleet vehicles to electric power.
Semler's team of engineers will take your existing truck, rip out the engine, fuel system, etc. and replace with a huge electric motor and custom-built battery packs.
The company's matte-black demo model is called the ET-One and, as seen in the accompanying video, draws curious stares wherever it goes.
Is Semler and Thor fighting against the current? Sure, but it's important to note Tesla also started out in a cramped California warehouse with a small team of engineers with a dream.
