People Have Some Thoughts on the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro

A new grille, a new engine—what's not to love about the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro? For purists, a lot, apparently.

The Camaro has always been a pretty consistently well-liked piece of American car muscle. It's always had a loyal following and whenever enhancements have been made, like, say a new body, new taillights, or a revamped SS, the crowd goes with it.

But slap a new grille on the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro and all hell breaks loose.

Chevy Gets Grilled

Chevy just released official images for the soon-to-be-released 2019 Chevrolet Camaro and it's basically turned the switch on the social media ventilation system. Purists are torching the company's redesign of the headlights and grille for being less aggressive, softer, and altogether more passive-looking than past editions.

The guys over at Jalponik also pointed out the hardware updates for the sports car featuring new suspension and brakes for the 2.0-liter base motor and a brand new four-cylinder Turbo 1LE. This updated engine joins with the V6, SS and ZL1 models with 1LE track packages.

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro's six-speed manual-only 1LE four cylinder version also comes with wider summer tires, Brembo brakes, a drive-mode selector with sport and track modes, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. So Chevy was trying their darndest here to do something new and maybe appeal to a new kind of driver.

They Took a Chance...

But the focus still seems to be on the cosmetic updates to the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro face. One Facebook commenter railed against the company's design decision saying, "This is the worst design decision Chevrolet has made in a long time. This is coming from a five-time Camaro owner. I hope other people like it so the Camaro can continue its success, but in my subjective opinion, the front end looks horrible."

Okay, so this is a kinder, gentler Camaro. Will it end up destroying its fan base? Do Camaro owners have to wait another five years for a new update?
