Charges Filled Against TikToker Who Hit a Golf Ball Into the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is an amazing place to visit, with its beautiful canyons and picturesque views. While many visitors remain respectful, some unfortunately feel the need to use the canyon for stunts. One TikToker with almost 7 million followers drew a massive amount of public outrage for one of her videos, which has been taken down.

According to the Grand Canyon National Park Service's Instagram post, a TikToker posted a video of herself hitting a golf ball into the canyon and subsequently throwing her club in after it. The ball and club went in near Mather Point. The public helped identify the original social media account for the woman by directly contacting the Grand Canyon National Park Service. The agency captioned their posts on Facebook and Instagram with this question, "Do we really need to say 'don't hit golf balls into the Grand Canyon?'"

For more context, the Grand Canyon NPS wrote in their post, "On October 27, Grand Canyon Law Enforcement identified, located, and contacted the individual responsible for the incident. Charges and a court appearance for the individual are pending."

The park service did not identify the TikToker in the post on either of the social media posts. But their Reddit account has the original video posted, which shows the video was submitted by Katie Sigmond, who is known for posting golf videos on her account.

The agency also points out that throwing things over the edge of the canyon is illegal, not to mention incredibly dangerous. There can be hikers and wildlife below who can be seriously hurt by falling objects.

Unfortunately, this isn't the only time someone has hit a golf ball into the Grand Canyon. A quick TikTok search pulls up two more instances of people hitting balls over the canyon's rim, one from 2020 and the other from 2021. The commenters in those posts tagged the authorities to ensure the videos get to the proper channels.

The National Parks Service encouraged visitors to report illegal activity by calling or texting the ISB Tip Line at 888-653-0009. The public can also submit an online form at www.nps.gov/ISB or email [email protected].
