If you aren't already bass fishing your season is right around the corner. We all have our favorite lures and time tested classics. Below are the top 10 that need to find a place in your tackle box.
10. Spinnerbait
The classic spinner bait. I prefer the Colorado blade for the extra action in the water and booyah makes a great bait. Plus, when you hook one you get to yell "BOOYAH". Throwing a spinner along the shoreline is almost a guaranteed way to catch bass.
9. Rat-L-Trap
When the bass don't bite make them. With it's classic rattle bass can't resist the sound and action of a Rat-L-Trap. Now with the new Rat-L-Trap Knock-N-Trap you can double the sound you're throwing.
8. Livetarget Yearling Baitball Rattlebait
So I'm double dipping with using another rattle bait. However, this one is completely different. The Livetarget Yearling Baitball Rattlebait looks like a bait ball with the rattle to trigger strikes. Nothing is more deadly in late summer when bass are gorging on bait balls.
7. Strike King KVD Jerkbait
Jerk baits work on any predatory fish and bass are no exception. The Strike King KVD Jerkbait is one of my favorites in sexy shad or citrus shad colors. The bait works whether you have a straight retrieve or rip it.
6. Rapala Scatter Rap Tail Dancer
Rapala's catch fish let's be clear. The Scatter Rap Tail Dancer is no exception and continues on this legacy. The scatter rap has the most unique action and puts out vibrations in the water.
5. Strike King 3.5" Coffee Pro Model Tube
Any lake that has crawdads and rocks are susceptible to a tube. Super simple to use, throw it on a jig head and slow roll it on the bottom or jig it. If you're targeting smallmouth a tube bait should be your go to.
4. Booyah Pad Crasher
If you remember what I said about Booyah baits, get ready to say it a lot. There is almost nothing better than pulling toad bass from the pads in summer. The Booyah Pad Crasher has the best action of any floating frog I've used. My personal preference is to use the white or bright colors so I can see them in the pads.
3. Rebel Pop-R
If you love to night fish then a Rebel Pop-R should be permanently tied on to one of your rods. The pop-r's are my go to baits for nights until sunrise. Just thinking about the splash I can't see and something ripping line is getting me ready to hit the lake.
2. Blakemore Roadrunner
I can hear it now people screaming that's a crappie bait. Which, it is. It's also a bass bait; and a damn good one. The one pictured above is the Randy's Swim'n Runner, and can't be wrong if you fish it slow. I've used these to smash pike, large mouth, small mouth, and crappie all on one rig. In fact a very close friend of mines largest small mouth came from a road runner.
1. Yum Mighty Worm
Simple, easy, effective, and versatile. The Yum Mighty Worm is highly effective; when nothing else works, this will. Rig it Texas or Carolina style to hit some honey holes in the weeds. Wacky rig it and flip it in front of a stump. There are so many ways to fish this bait and all of them work.
