Truxx, the Uber for Trucks, Now Live in Select Cities

Truxx, a new smartphone app billing itself as the "Uber for trucks," has now launched in several cities.

Serving the short-term haul market which includes moving services, Truxx is aimed at users who need to make short moves or quick pickup and drop off of items like furniture from one location to another.

So far, Truxx is now operating in New York, Florida, and 50-plus other locations with new cities being added each week.

The app features two modes: TruxxMe and TruxxHelp. TruxxMe rates start at $25 per half hour if you load cargo alone and TruxxHelp rates start a $35 per hour with a driver helping riders to load and unload. All drivers go through a rigorous criminal and DMW background check and adhere to an Uber-like rating and review system. Truxx earns a 30-percent cut of customer charges, with toll reimbursements and tips paid in full to the driver within three to five business days of any move.

The app is the brainchild of Carlos Suarez, in collaboration with Computer Emergency Room, a Vestal, New York-based full service IT company specializing in computer repair and sales services. According to his Crunchbase profile, Suarez served in multiple industrial and interaction design capacities working with Reebok, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks and others to improve user and consumer engagement.
