Man Gives Fearless Urban Deer a Good Chin Scratch

This young buck was extremely friendly to the locals.

Urban deer are becoming more common over many parts of the United States. It's understandable. Deer are losing their natural habitat all over and have no choice but to adapt to living in areas frequented by humans. Some of them seem to adopt better than others. Today's video is an example of a buck that has adapted well.

In this footage, these people are amazed that this young buck does not care at all about the potential dangers of humans. Instead, he's content to keep munching away on this guy's garden.

At one point, he even gives this buck a good scratch on the chin. Something the young deer seems to really enjoy.

As fun as the video was, there is a sad twist to this story. The video's description on YouTube says that conservation officers investigated the incident a little later and ended up destroying the deer. That's not a great scenario. However, it appears this video was shot in the late summer. We suspect officials were concerned that as the fall arrived, the buck would become more aggressive as the rut arrived.

It is true that there have been many instances of deer becoming aggressive once the testosterone starts flowing and the bucks are looking to battle rivals. These animals are quite strong and capable of doing some damage if a person is not careful.

Even though deer living in areas frequented by humans are becoming more common, these animals are usually still wary of people. My own experiences with urban mule deer have shown most that live in town will only tolerate a person getting so close before they turn and leave the area. It makes us wonder if this buck was raised or conditioned to people at a younger age.
