Video: Could This 409-Pound Warsaw Grouper be the New World Record?

Local firefighter and tournament angler James Taylor is waiting for confirmation that this monster catch is the new spearfishing world record.

James Taylor was fishing his last tournament on August 19, as he and his wife, Michelle, are expecting their first child in October. What better way to finish in style than by spearing a massive 409-pound Warsaw Grouper?

Taylor was fishing the St. Pete Open spearfishing tournament, spearing the fish on a dive down 250 feet while 85 miles offshore. And although the fish didn't count for the tournament, it may break the record books. He is currently waiting to hear from the International Underwater Spearfishing Association (IUSA) to confirm the record-setting catch. Taylor has also said he will be applying to Guinness World Records.

The largest Warsaw Grouper taken on a traditional rod and reel weighed 436 pounds and was caught in the Gulf of Mexico off the Florida coast in 1985.

The monster fish has been filleted and will be used to feed family and friends.
