Don't ever say a bobcat can't catch a tree rat in its own territory.
Facebook user Ben Mills posted a trail cam video of a beautiful winter bobcat, chasing down a squirrel in its own element, to the Maine Deer Hunters page. And, what a video it is.
After just a couple attempts, the big wild cat gets a mouthful of grey squirrel that'll feed it quite well.
The video is awesome in several ways. First, the bobcat can be seen flying down out of the tree hot on the squirrel's tail, but then having to continue the pursuit to get his lunch.
While the squirrel makes a valiant attempt to get up a neighboring tree, the feline hunter has its number. Once the inevitable happens and the squirrel is his, note the size of that bushy tail.
The video is listed as being taken in Lyman, Maine, which is in the southern portion of the state not far from Portland.
It's always amazing to see how nature hunts. Right when we think we have the corner on guile and skill, the outdoor world has the perfect response: "you don't have a clue how to hunt, humans."
This is a great look at nature at its best and most brutal, and the reason we love the outdoors so much. We'd like to give a big thanks to Ben Mills for sharing this great trail cam footage!
