Not all turkeys are created equally.
When it's time to hit the turkey woods, the only thing going through a hunter's mind is a big rope-draggin' tom. We all just want to see that beard bouncing as a big tom thunders away. No one ever thinks about taking a big jake.
Wait until you see this, though.
That's a big bird. With all of the beards, that would have been a giant bird. As it was, the gobbler weighed 17 pounds and the largest beard was 6 inches long. It's hard to believe it was a jake. Without seeing the fan or the spur size, it's possible it was even a young tom, but that's unlikely. You don't often see a tom with a flock of jakes and I'm going to take the hunter's word for it.
