In the past, many people regarded the alligator gar as a trash fish that was good for nothing. That mentality seems to be changing slowly but surely, however.
Many anglers are now realizing just how awesome fishing for these prehistoric monsters can be. After all, it isn't often you can catch a 200-pound fish in freshwater!
If you still aren't convinced, you have to see the awesome fight this 150-pound gar puts up in this video from YouTube user TyPigPatrol.
Talk about beginners luck! It's the first time this guy has ever fished for gar and he gets to catch a fish like that? We really can't get enough of the awesome gar fishing videos that've been flooding the internet this year. These fish are wicked-cool-looking, and they put up the kind of battle you just can't get from any other freshwater fish, spare maybe a sturgeon.
So yes, we're extremely jealous of this guy for catching such an awesome fish, and for the fact that he has the whole catch on video. No one can ever accuse him of making up a fish story, that's for sure!
