Volkswagen has major plans for electric car production in the United States.
This month, head of Volkswagen operations in North America Heinrich Woebchek confirmed in an interview with Autocar that its ID Crozz and ID Buzz will be manufactured at its Tennessee plant, given its advantages in producing higher volume versus internationally.
"For strong product momentum, they need to be produced in the U.S.A.," said Woebchek. "It's not possible to come into a high-volume scenario with imported cars. We want to localize electric mobility in the U.S."

The ID Crozz, a compact crossover, and the ID Buzz van represent the German brand's latest electrification effort, with a commitment to introduce an electric or hybrid model across all of its brands by the end of the decade. That includes 50 new all-electric models by 2025 as it pushes towards increased U.S. market share.
In 2011, the brand's first effort with the widely panned Passat had its momentum crushed amidst the diesel admissions scandal and the changing preferences towards larger vehicles.
Hopefully, the Buzz and the Crozz helps usher in a new era for the embattled automaker.
