Ron Spomer tested out his new Mossberg Patriot rifle chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum on a New Mexico elk hunt. Here's how it performed for him.
Though they're best known for their shotguns, Mossberg released their Patriot rifle to great fanfare at the 2015 SHOT Show. Since then, the rifle has gotten a great reputation as a reasonably priced, high-quality hunting rifle. Ron Spomer was one of the first in the hunting industry to receive the new rifle and he tested it out on a New Mexico elk hunt that fall.
Elk tags aren't always easy to get in New Mexico, but hunters who successfully draw a tag can experience some absolutely incredible elk hunting.

That looks like a nice set up: a Mossberg Patriot rifle chambered in the flat-shooting and hard-hitting 7mm Rem Mag cartridge, using Nosler's excellent Trophy Grade ammunition loaded with AccuBond bullets and topped with a quality Leupold VX-6 scope.
While it's all well and good to have quality hunting gear, that doesn't mean anything if the hunter can't do their part. Luckily, his embarrassing experience with an elephant gun aside, Ron held up his end of the deal on this hunt and made three really good shots on that elk. Great work, Ron!
All in all, it appears as though the Mossberg Patriot performed as expected on this particular hunt.
