Watch: When Saving an Otter Goes Wrong

No good deed goes unpunished.

No good deed goes unpunished. That's what one man learned when he tried to remove a wounded otter from the middle of a Florida road.

The social media channel Disney Pintopia, which is run by a couple who go by the names Mr. and Mrs. Pintopia and they primarily document their pin collection, shared the video this week along with some backstory.

In the video, a truck passes by, and then Mr. Pintopia appears trying to shake off the otter that latched onto his leg. Mr. Pintopia kicks wildly as the otter swings over his foot and then the camera points toward the ground.

According to the video's caption, they were driving home from looking at a pin collection when they saw the otter. Mrs. Pintopia explained that it was barely moving and cars were narrowly dodging it.

"The poor thing was raising its head in fear every time a car came by," she wrote, adding, "I begged Mr Pintopia to stop and help the otter or at least slide it to the side of the road...Mr Pintopia is and will always be my hero!!"

In a quick cut, the video shows the damage the otter did to Mr. Pintopia's leg. As he sits in a medical examination room, the leg of his pants is shredded and his bare leg has scratch marks.

While otters look like cute and cuddly critters, they're actually really scrappy. In the past year alone, there have been several documented instances of otters harming people who either got too close or invaded their territory.

Last summer, a woman was viciously attacked by a river otter while tubing in Montana. Her injuries were so bad that she was in critical condition and had to undergo multiple surgeries. And that's a river otter, which is like the size of a medium-sized dog.

And then there was the sea otter — which can weigh up to 100 pounds — attacking surfers and stealing their boards off the coast of Santa Cruz, California.

Long story short, don't mess with otters.
