Waymo and Honda may team up to co-build an autonomous self-driving delivery vehicle for the masses.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Waymo CEO John Krafcik cited its potential delivering service as not belonging to a "traditional car driven on roads.", but a transporter of goods and services.
From Bloomberg:
"The Honda model may move people and goods, Krafcik hinted; it might be smaller than a truck and could come without a steering wheel or brakes. A Honda spokesman said the companies are "continuing to explore" the relationship."
Both brands first announced a potential partnership in Dec. 2016 to integrate Waymo's technology in Honda vehicles, as the second automaker to come onboard after Fiat Chrysler. However, few details have been revealed to date.
Waymo has developed several partnerships over the past year. These include its agreement with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Jaguar for fleet purchases of the Pacifica minivan and the i-Pace, continuing its practice of outfitting existing vehicles with its proprietary self-driving platform.
However, unlike these alliances, Waymo will reportedly have more hands-on involvement in the design and concept build for the Honda vehicle.
