Wekiwa Springs State Park is a stunning oasis located in the small Florida town of Apopka. Located 16 miles north of Orlando in central Florida, this Florida State Park offers miles of trails, the clear water springs of the Wekiva River, and a campground with 60 sites. Wekiwa Springs is ideal to become immersed in epic nature adventures and is one of the most visited Florida State Parks in the area.
About the Park
The current-day parkland is home to the Seminole and Timucua Native tribes. The state park sits at the headwaters of the Wekiwa River, where lush tropical hammocks and azure waters create a hub for unique wildlife and one-of-a-kind outdoor experiences. There are also incredible sandhill uplands to explore, 13 miles of hiking trails, ample opportunities for getting on the water, horse trails, Sand Lake, and a taste of the real Florida lifestyle.
Activities at Wekiwa Springs State Park

A great way to discover the magic of Wekiwa Springs is by hiking, bicycling, or horseback riding on the 13 miles of trails. Trails range from under 1 mile to 13.5 miles and include the famous Orange Trail, the White Trail, and the Mill Creek Loop. Bicyclists can take the 9-mile off-road trail or the 8 miles of horse trails. You can rent bikes at the park concession, Nature Adventurers.
You will witness the sandhills, river swamps, hardwood hammocks, Flatwoods, and other geographical features through the trails. While on the hiking trails, keep an eye out for wildlife like tortoises, white-tailed deer, turkeys, bobcats, and the Florida black bear. Pick up a trail map and learn about bear safety at the ranger station on site. Besides biking and hiking on the nature trails, other activities include volleyball, enjoying a meal at the designated picnic areas, and simply relaxing.
Water Sports at Wekiwa Springs State Park

The main attraction at the park is the stunning spring waters where people can swim, kayak, go snorkeling, and more! Visitors can go canoeing and kayaking along the Wekiva River and Rock Springs Run (canoe and kayak rentals are available). For paddling, you can either take the more scenic route to look out for birds, turtles, and alligators, or you can head to Wekiva Island for corn hole, volleyball, and other entertainment.
The water stays at a constant 72 degrees year-round and has been a favorite spot for visitors since the 1860s. Please note that swimming is not permitted in Wekiwa Springs Run, Rock Springs Run, or the Wekiva River. The designated swimming area at the spring is over a half-acre in size with an average depth of four feet.
Camping at the State Park
Campers will appreciate having multiple ways to stay overnight in the park, including regular sites, primitive camping sites, and both group camping sites (developed and undeveloped). The main camping area has 60 wooded sites with water and electric hookups, a fire ring with a grill, and a picnic table. Some sites also have sewer hookups and a dump station.

Because of its popularity, it is highly recommended to arrive early, especially on weekends in the summertime. The parking area will reach capacity, and you will not be able to enter. The address is 1800 Wekiwa Cir., Apopka, FL 32712. The park is open from 8 AM to sundown every day of the year.
