If you're holding something hot, you might want to put it down before watching this video.
A woman from Cuba, Alabama was out walking in her yard when she came across a scaly visitor. The long rat snake had already left its skin under the steps of her house, and now it was making its way toward her barn. Instead of being frightened by the big snake, she was excited. She took out her phone to take a video, but she got a lot more than what she was expecting.
At first, the snake chooses to ignore the paparazzi and continues slithering through the long grass toward the barn. But when the woman with the camera gets a little too friendly, the snake makes it clear he isn't interested in being nice. The snake lifts the upper part of its body making it look large and intimidating. It's a warning, but when the woman doesn't back down, the snake makes a split-second decision.
This is the part where you don't want to be holding any kind of hot beverage.

The snake uses it's spring-like muscles to lunge toward the phone. It's an impressive show of strength that's enough to make even the most laid-back person jump out of their seat. The snake moves so quickly, there's no chance for the woman to react or get out of the way. The resulting video is a close-up look of something no one wants to experience in real life.
Luckily, the only thing that got hurt from the incident was the phone. Both the woman and the snake came out unharmed, and a lesson was learned. As an all-around animal lover and known supporter of environmental issues, the woman never intended to cause the snake harm. It's important to remember, however, that even nonvenomous snakes can be dangerous.
If you respect their space, they'll respect yours.
