Winchester Expedition Big Game ammo is built for hunters going on a serious hunting adventure who need ammo that will perform when the chips are down. Here's why.
After you've saved up for years to go on the hunt of your dreams, the last thing you need is for your ammunition to fail at the moment of truth.
For that reason, Winchester designed their Expedition Big Game line of ammo for hunters pursuing large and tough game like elk, moose, bear, or African plains game.
While ammo lines like Hornady's American Whitetail and Winchester's Deer Season XP are great for deer hunting, it's generally a good idea to use more robustly constructed ammo for massive knockdown power when hunting the biggest game in North America and Africa.
Those sort of hunts also sometimes require pinpoint accuracy and longer range shooting.
With all that in mind, Winchester Expedition Big Game ammo is currently available heavy hitting and flat shooting cartridges like the .270 Winchester, .270 Winchester Short Magnum (.270 WSM), .30-06 Springfield, .300 Winchester Magnum, .300 Winchester Short Magnum (.300 WSM), .325 Winchester Short Magnum (.325 WSM), .338 Lapua Magnum, .338 Winchester Magnum, 7mm Remington Magnum, and the 7mm Winchester Short Magnum (7mm WSM).
All Expedition Big Game loads use AccuBond CT (Combined Technology) bullets, which are essentially Nosler AccuBond Long Range bullets with a Lubalox exterior coating.
Now, the Nosler AccuBond LR is a very well regarded hunting bullet, but Winchester claims the added coating improves an already well designed bullet by reducing engraving forces and reducing fouling.
The AccuBond CT bullets also have a polymer tip (red instead of Nosler's typical grey tip for that bullet) to resist bullet deformation, increase the ballistic coefficient, and promote expansion upon impact. At the same time, the AccuBond CT bullets also have a bonded lead core for high weight retention, deep penetration, and all around excellent terminal performance.
The result is flat shooting and accurate ammunition that's very well suited for penetrating thick hide and heavy bones at close as well as at long range. In short, it's exactly what a hunter pursuing moose up in British Columbia or kudu in South Africa really needs out of a bullet.
This ammunition also uses nickel (instead of brass cases) for corrosion resistance afield.
Hunters looking for factory hunting ammo with the highest ballistic coefficient for long range hunting should also consider the Hornady Precision Hunter line of ammo which uses the extremely high B.C. ELD-X bullet. But those who want a tougher bullet will probably really like the Winchester Expedition Big Game.
Be advised that Winchester Expedition Big Game ammo does contain lead, so it's not permitted for hunting in California. If you need lead free ammunition, consider the Nosler E-Tip or Barnes VOR-TX ammo instead.
With all that being said, if you're looking for an ultimate performance hunting load to use in your 7mm Rem Mag or .300 Win Mag on your dream hunt in the United States, Africa, Canada, or New Zealand, then the Winchester Expedition Big Game line of rifle ammunition might be the perfect choice for you.
