When a Lynx Comes Casually Strolling Down the Road

A countryside drive turns into a rare moment of amazement when a friendly lynx comes sauntering by.

The Canada lynx is a medium-sized cat, with similar physical attributes as the bobcat, and can be found across Canada, Alaska, and in some parts of the northern United States. Primarily nocturnal in nature, they can be spotted during the day - often hunting for their favorite prey, the snowshoe hare—and for those that are fortunate to catch a glimpse, it certainly is a memorable one.

Adam Shand and his family were out for a drive January 22 in Clyde River, Nova Scotia, when much to their utter disbelief, they spotted a lynx casually out for an afternoon stroll. As you'll see, this cat didn't seem too concerned with their vehicle - or the camera recording the footage - as it came up behind them and overtook on the right.

Did you see how big those paws are? Capable of spreading as wide as four-inches, they come in handy for traversing deep snow. Talk about nature's version of snowshoes.

Have you been lucky enough to spot a lynx in the wild? I've crossed paths with one myself, a few years back in a remote region of Quebec, Canada. It was a sight I'll never forget.
