You just know this is a folk ballad in the making. A peacock has been roaming a Michigan Town, and so far, it's remained one step above the authorities. Think a reimagined Smokey And The Bandit with a peacock as its star. Honesty with the current film offerings, it's not the worst thing in the world.
The peacock has run a foul of animal control officers for two days now. And they're very tired at this point. A student driving to Valley Lutheran High School in Saginaw County first spotted the loose bird on Monday, according to MLive.com. Ironically enough, the student came the closest to capturing the bird. They managed to actually get the bird under control and even brought it to the high school.
I have a couple of questions about this. Did they walk to the high school? Because I keep imagining a peacock holding its head out the window while the student drove. Also why did they bring the peacock to the high school? Planning the most epic day of the show and tell ever? Well, I actually have an answer for the latter. The student wanted to get help in tracking down the peacock's potential owner.
Peacock On The Loose
However, the peacock escaped into the surrounding Saginaw Township neighborhood. It vowed to never be caught again either, and so far it's been successful.
"He is in a wooded area, and surprisingly agile and fast," Rachel Horton, director of the Saginaw County Animal Care and Control Center, told the paper. "He flies pretty gracefully." That sounds very much like a horror movie villain, doesn't it?
Over the next two days, animal control tried to capture the peacock, but it always managed to elude their grasp. Animal control is officially adding peacock wrangling to its list of required training. So far, they've ended up empty-handed. "[Animal control officers] returned from the adventure with a few scratches and tree-climbing experience that we may need to train on in the future," Horton said.
Authorities even recruited some helpful citizens to try to help get the peacock. However, so far, the bird is not falling for it. The animal control is adding a bird throw net to their wish list. Currently, the owner is a mystery. Perhaps, the bird is wild.
