What's being described by some as a prepper's paradise is up for sale. Located in Wisconsin, about 25 miles southeast of Duluth, Minnesota, is an 80-acre compound with residential living space built into the ground.
While the walls of the house are made out of cement and stone and the roof is grass, it's actually quite luxurious. Inside the 5,200 square foot house are nine bedrooms, four baths, a rec room, a cedar-lined sauna, an eight-car garage, and a whole lot more.
"This is a fortress. They've literally terraformed this house out of the earth. It's the perfect place to ride out a zombie apocalypse," said Jess, the host of the real estate TikTok channel Homes.tastrophes. "Even if you're not into the prepper lifestyle, I just think this is the coolest property."
Now, you might be wondering: What exactly makes it a prepper compound? Well, seller Jonathan Allen told USA Today that the previous owners had prepped the house and land for Y2K — the programming error that people feared would collapse all computerized systems as the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve 1999 — and he more or less followed along.
In addition to the aforementioned features, the 80-acre plot is equipped with apple trees, frontage on the Little Amnicon River, two wells, an old wind generator, a 300-yard shooting range, and more.
"Obviously it relates- it makes a lot of sense now with the way that some people feel about the current state, you know, that we're in," Allen told USA Today. "The way that it's built and constructed, it probably would cater to so-called 'preppers' nowadays."
The compound, located in South Range, Wisconsin, went on the market earlier this month for $1.1 million.
